Movie Making Camp | Film School | Production | Video Editing
Class experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner Level
Get ready to roll cameras and make some cinema magic! 🎬 I'm so excited to bring this film class to older learners. In this camp, we'll cover all the ins and outs of the film-making process, from pre-production to post-production. And by the end, you'll have your very own short film to show off to the world. This camp is perfect for movie buffs of all levels. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, you'll get individualized feedback and guidance to help you bring your movie ideas to...
Learners will develop basic skills with all aspects of the filmmaking process.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a second assistant director and production assistant on a couple of independent films. I wrote and directed my own short film in my studies at a summer film program at USC.
Homework Offered
Learners are expected to show up each day with the previous day's work completed. Any work not completed during class, should be completed before the next day. If your child needs extra support outside of the camp, please reach out for additional options, such as 1:1 tutoring or joining one of my ongoing or one-time courses.Assessments Offered
Assessment will occur throughout each day. Informal assessment will occur during activities, with verbal feedback given. There will also be informal check-ins where I assess the status of the class and determine if everyone is ready to move on. I will use these check ins to inform partnerships.Grades Offered
Learners will need to either use a notebook or word document to draft their movies. Templates will be provided as Google Docs and Word Docs. Any type of digital camera: smartphone, tablet, even a computer camera will work for some movies, but we will make it work.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Depending on their story ideas, learners may need help with creating props, sets, acting, and filming. Nothing elaborate is necessary but I also try to avoid squashing creativity with practicality. I've have students make movies with their dolls when they couldn't get actors together in time. I prefer to teach editing in iMovie because it is one of the most simple free video editors that doesn't require users to have an account. Adobe Premiere Rush is a great alternative for anyone working on a phone or tablet that isn't an apple device. I will also use Google Classroom to easily make copies of templates for learners' to work on their screenplays, and so I can review their work. Learners will need a google account. I will provide a code for our classroom during our first live meeting.
