Class Experience

Growing up I was enthralled with classic movies, especially musical ones, and I am really looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for them with your children. In the Movie Magic Club we discuss a different classic family movie every week. The films we cover are my childhood favorites and ones I am sure every child will find enchanting!

During the sessions we analyze the films discussing plot lines, characters and themes, lessons they teach, historical context and interesting tidbits about the making of the movies. We share our views and opinions of the movies including our favorite characters, scenes and of course songs! Then we engage in a creative activity related to the movie of the week. It might be a craft project, performance, recipe or even a science experiment! For example in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang class we will be creating our own inventions and in The Sound of Music class we will be showcasing our musical talents. The classes are highly interactive so students should watch each of the movies before the classes to be able to fully engage in the discussion.

Movie selection for each week:
March 11: Jungle Book
March 18: The Wizard of Oz
March 25: Annie
April 1: Mary Poppins
April 8: The Sound of Music
April 15: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

If these films are a few of your favorite things then you will love this course! I look forward to seeing you in class. I can’t wait to find out what you think of these wonderful movies!

The Sound of Music is set during the Second World War and the family are chased by the German army. Jungle Book features some violence. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has a scary character that kidnaps children. Please check out commonsensemedia.org if you are not familiar with any of these films and are concerned they may not be suitable for your child.
