Class Experience
In this delicious hands on course, students will learn how to make equivalent fractions using chocolate bars that are segmented into 12ths. Students will see and understand how 12/12 = 1, 6/12 = 1/2, 4/12 = 1/3, and 3/12 = 1/4 by breaking their own bars. The teacher will also use other manipulatives to show other equivalent fractions. Students will gain a basic understanding of making equivalent fractions as well as adding and subtraction fractions with like denominators.
Any chocolate bar that is segmented into 12 pieces will work. Hershey's original full size or special dark works. Hershey's with almonds will not.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
