Class Experience

US Grade Preschool
What is a poem? Who writes poetry? What types of sounds that make poems?

In this interactive ongoing class, little learners will learn about poetic devices like rhyme, simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification and more in a way younger learners can understand. Learners will have a chance to listen to poems read aloud, discuss their possible meanings, and write their own poems as a group! When famous poems are featured in our analysis, we may listen to short stories about the poet's lives as well. During each session we may clap, dance, wiggle, sing, listen to stories, make silly sounds, draw or chat, exploring poetry in an engaging and fun way! Each session will focus on a different poetic device or type of poetry.

This class will meet once per week for 25 minutes. Here are the first 4 topics of each new session (but your child can join in any week):

Week 1: Rhyme
Week 2: Onomatopoeia
Week 3: Metaphor
Week 4: Personification
Learning Goals

As this group is made up of little learners, parents should be available off-screen to assist with muting and unmuting their child in the event of background noise in their home. (Parents may instead choose to teach their child how to utilize this function themselves prior to class). Parents should also ensure their little ones are familiar with Outschool safety guidelines and rules.
