What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. I will post to the classroom a list of 3-7 questions due the following Saturday. There will also be a list of 2-5 research topics or projects, and each student will choose one that interests them. Answers for the research topics only have to be a paragraph or two. This is also due Saturday of each week. Homework can either be sent through the communication function of Outschool (email) or posted on the classroom page. Welcome To More Warrior Queens! Throughout history, there have been some incredible and fierce women who have led their people, ruled with the utmost of authority, and challenged every social and gender norm around them. In this class, we will learn about what made them so iconic. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in different times and cultures and what shaped them into achieving their goals.In this class, we will learn about 12 different fearless women, a brief history about the what was going on in the world around them, how they ruled and and what impact they left on their society. Some of the topics covered might be a bit graphic for younger students (violence, sex). Week 1 - Phoolan Devi - Indian bandit Week 2 - Wu Zetian - China's only female empress Week 3- The Mirabal Sisters - Writers and Revolutionaries from the Dominican Republic Week 4 - Mai Bhago - Sikh warrior Week 5 - Empress Myeongseong - Empress of Korea Week 6 - Yoshiko Kawashima - Princess Spy Week 7 - Tomyris - Massagetean ruler Week 8 - Ching Shih - Chinese pirate Week 9 - Kwalah bint al-Azwar - Muslim warrior Week 10 - Qiu Jin - Woman Warrior Week 11 - Petra Herrera - Mexican Revolutionary Week 12 - Malinche - Translator and Guide in Mexico Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) - -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page. - Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. - In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. - Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom. -I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class. - Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic. -Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions. Students will learn about amazing women from history. We will discuss their lives, how history affected their stories, and what was their legacy.

Some of these women experienced violence or sexual exploitation. We will also discuss discrimination and social norms in history.
This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience. Some of the seminars/courses that I have attended in the past are: Foundations for Teaching and Learning About Native Americans; The Presence and Absence of Asian America: What Truths Lie Beyond the Headlines; Using the “Diary of Anne Frank” to Amplify Students’ Voices; Painting a Just Picture – Art and Activism.
