More Than Music: Taylor Swift Discussion Panel
What's included

The music is great, BUT it's Taylor, the person, who landed her Time Magazine's Person of the Year. In this 3-day camp, Swifties will be given opportunities to actively practice critical thinking, listening, and speaking skills during daily collaborative conversations. The thought-provoking questions listed below will be presented at the beginning of the class, and learners will have time to jot down any key points they'd like to include in their discussion. Swifties must have prior knowledge of topics listed below and can research them before we meet. Swifties will discuss the following critical thinking topics: ✔️Week 1: How did Kanye West's 2099 VMA Awards "dis" impact Taylor's career? ✔️Week 2: How did Scooter Braun impact Taylor's career both positively and negatively? ✔️Week 3: What were the events leading up to the release of Reputation and what did the album release signify for Taylor Swift? ✔️Week 4: How has Taylor Swift changed the music industry for both artists and fans? Once the discussion begins, learners are encouraged to make notes based off others' contributions and participate in the chat box as well. Based on Swiftie responses, I may pose new, off-shoot questions to probe further. Additionally, the daily discussion methods promote logic, confidence, and respect. Each learner may actively participate or actively listen - either is acceptable. Learners will respect opinions and follow the group's code of conduct which includes: ✔️ courtesy muting while others are discussing, guaranteeing uninterruption & respect ✔️ hand raising to respectfully contribute ideas & opinions ✔️ support of one another CAMERAS ON FOR A SAFE SPACE Swifties are required to have working cameras in the “on” position. Class is SAFER, more engaging, and more social this way. Please make sure your learner arrives with camera on. Black screens do not promote trust in a group. ABOUT YOUR SWIFTIE TEACHER I've followed Taylor's career since her self-titled album, Taylor Swift. But when she released 1989, I became what is now referred to as a Swiftie. I lead a weekly social group on Outschool called Taylor Swift Social Club: The Swiftie Vault. My top 3 albums are 1989, Reputation, and Lover. But Midnights is quickly dominating my playlist. Aside from being a Swiftie, I'm: ✔️ an animal lover with two crazy rescue dogs, Maxie and Calhoun ✔️ a reality TV star! I got married on the TV show, Say Yes to the Dress - S16:E2 ✔️ a 2-time cancer survivor, so I make the most of EVERY day ✔️ a resident of Alaska, and it drops to -20 at my house in winter ✔️ a huge fan of the legendary Dolly Parton who, by the way, is also a Swiftie
