In this 6-week self-paced class, we will be learning all about the 9 main parts of speech using the Montessori approach for grammar, with a Minecraft theme, supported by a qualified Montessori elementary teacher. This approach to grammar is fun and hands on, and includes learning and using symbols to represent each part of speech, so that they are easier to learn and identify. We will also learn the stories behind each of the symbols which gives the learner a richer understanding of the origin and function of that word type. BONUS: With each lesson, you will receive a bonus workbook as well as printable Montessori materials to use in conjunction with the learning materials. PLEASE NOTE: We will not be playing Minecraft in this course, but if your child wants to combine their own Minecraft time with the lessons, then that would be fun!

Students will learn about all 9 parts of speech. They will be able to identify them in a sentence and use them to create better sentences of their own.
Syllabus
6 Lessons
over 6 WeeksLesson 1:
LESSON 1: Nouns
In this first lesson, we will learn an engaging story about the history of the noun, and why we use a black pyramid (triangle), like the pyramids of Egypt, to represent it. We will look at identifying many different objects (nouns) in Minecraft. 10 mins of video lessons
Lesson 2:
LESSON 2: Noun Family
We will meet the other members of the Noun Family in this lesson - Articles and Adjectives, and we will have another story about why the articles and adjectives come together with the noun to create a family of words (a phrase). Lesson 3:
LESSON 3: Verbs
In this lesson, we will learn all about the words that give energy and movement to the Noun Family, just like the Sun is the source of our energy. We will learn that adding verbs to a phrase transforms it into a sentence, and can be a sentence all on their own. We will briefly touch on verb tenses. 16 mins of video lessons
Lesson 4:
LESSON 4: Adverbs
In Lesson 4, we learn that the words that describe verbs are called adverbs. At the end of this class, as in every class, students can practice identifying each part of speech in a sentence, and they will also learn different patterns of symbols (and parts of speech) to see how powerful and fun using these words can be. 18 mins of video lessons

Supply List
There will be workbooks and printables you may wish to print off each week which are included in each lesson. Learners will also need the following colours of pen or pencil - black, light blue, blue, red, orange, pink, green, purple and yellow/gold, and may find some additional sheets of paper useful.
