1 hour per week. Students will be required to read the case, develop a closing and opening argument, develop direct and cross-examination questions outside of class.

Class Experience

Intermediate Level
Class 1: How to develop a case notebook. Students will give prehearing briefs and arguments.   Students will learn to draft out the elements of the crime (also used in civil cases), create evidence tables, and list out the good and bad facts of the case. Students may email (me) their witnesses any questions they may have. Students will learn about developing themes and opening arguments. 

Class 2: Students will present opening statements. 

Class 3: The prosecution will call their witnesses and the defense will cross-examine. Students will learn about direct questioning and cross-examination. Students will practice objections. 

Class 4. The defense will call their witnesses and the prosecution will cross-examine.  Students will learn about direct questioning and cross-examination. Students will practice objections. 

Class 5: Students will learn about closing arguments and how they differ from opening arguments. Prosection and Defense will present closing arguments.
Learning Goals
Students will learn court etiquette, advocacy for their side, speech, and logic.
