Class Experience

This socially driven art class was co-created by a few of my current art students on Outschool. The intent is to build a community of peers to create art and socialize with each week. Connecting though art, sharing ideas & stories while getting encouragement from peers and developing a healthy outlet for expression. The art journal is the common ground! We will create a beautiful mixed media keepsake journal of process art styles and techniques! Paint & Ink, Patterns, Floral designs, Collage art, Recycled art, Doodles, Watercolors, Botanicals, Abstract, Animal drawings, Art styles from famous artists', Printing, and more! Layering paint, adding texture, using different supplies and experimenting all in one place - our art journal! Student ideas are encouraged and welcomed.

As co-contributors to the class, students will have an opportunity to create their own lesson plan for me to teach their idea to the class. If they have an interest in teaching their idea to the class they absolutely can - and I hope they do! They will need to create a lesson plan from a template I provide for guidance. Also, they will need to schedule a live meeting with me to go over any questions before their teaching day so they feel organized and confident before presenting to the class. We can meet for 15 mins after class to make it easy! This will provide an incredible outlet to help nurture creative independence, confidence, artistic planning, and leadership skills!

*Themes could change if the class wants to try something different or we have student teachers sign up.
* Dates can change too if we have a Student Teacher!

The first few weeks your artist will become familiar with the class and what type of lessons would be a good fit to teach with the time available and a theme their peers might enjoy. By watching and learning for at least 4 weeks, this will give them more understanding of what would be expected as a student teacher so they are set up to succeed! Once your artist has been in the class 4 weeks, they can then apply and go through the approval process to student teach.

* I will provide an art lesson planning template to help with their project planning. After they have their lesson planned we will need to meet for 15 mins to go over the project so I can make sure they are ready to teach on their assigned teaching day!

I can not wait for this class to start and see what amazing things your artists create and dream up -----and I am even more excited to be a part of this supportive community of young creators and learn a thing of two from them! Please message me with any questions!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Kristi! I am a homeschool teacher and an art teacher in Texas! I have 2 children that are in 11th & 7th grade this next year! I absolutely love being involved in my kids education!

I am the owner of Wolf Circus Art Studio and Evolve Volleyball Club. I teach art classes for Pre-K to 6th grade, host art parties, teach macrame, and make pottery. I have been teaching art lessons for over 10 years and I love connecting with children through art! I have experience teaching lessons in a private art studio setting as well as summer camps and online.

I also am the Art & Crafts Director for a non-profit called Salute the Kids. Salute the Kids is a charity that supports military children and families through camping adventures. I create and teach all of the arts and crafts projects and host a family art night at camp. Working with military children is such a gift.

I am so excited to be here on Outschool with the opportunity to teach, connect, and create some really cool art with your artist! I most certainly know I will learn and be inspired by them as well!

When I am not teaching you can find me hanging out with my family, making pottery, playing volleyball, taking care of my cacti, or trying to talk my husband into rescuing another Chihuahua. You can never have too many Chihuahuas ;) I have 5 now!

Hope to see you in class!!
Mrs. Kristi
