This class is based around the musical work, "Carnival of the Animals," by Camille Saint-Saëns. Each class period we will learn about a new animal and the music that goes along with it. Learners are encouraged to move to the music and express what they are hearing. Moving to the music can help learners decide if the music sounds like the animals or not. Students are learning to be creative and expressive. After we listen to our animal song of the day, each learner is encouraged to share their thoughts on the music. Along with the music of the from "Carnival of the Animals" will be singing other songs that like gathering songs, parting songs, and songs about the animals of the day. What We Are Doing: - Active music listening - Reflective coloring sheets - Learning about animals - Reading stories about each song - Moving our bodies to each song - Moving our bodies like different animals - Using our voices to sound like different animals - Singing songs about the animals - Learning musical vocabulary to describe what we hear - Learning about a composer and what they do - Viewing active listening maps for each song Each meeting we will talk about a new animal! The order of each class session will be as follows: - Quick community building question - Welcome song - Intro of the animal - Story of animal - Music of animal - Discussion - Movement - Song about animal - Parting song Schedule: Day 1: Royal March of the Lion Day 2: Hens and Roosters Day 3: Tortoises Kangaroos. Day 4: Elephant Day 5: Wild Donkeys Day 6: Kangaroo Day 7: Aquarium Day 8: The Cuckoo Day 9: Aviary Day 11: Fossils Day 12: Finale ** Book title #1 "Carnival of the Animals" by Jack Prelutsky ** Book title #2 "Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saëns ** Music is from the composer CD from Camille Saint-Saëns Each session we will be listening to the music, moving to the music, creating our own movements, using our voices, and coloring pictures of the animals the music is written about. No musical experience required

Parental Guidance
Color pages may be printed off if you wish. Learners are also encouraged to participate in the different movement activities during the class. Making sure that the learner is in a safe and open area for movement is advised.
Teacher will be using occasional imbedded videos from YouTube to show listening maps for the music and to show silly videos that go along with each animal.
