Class Experience

In "Mini Book Club - Magic Tree House: Revolutionary War on Wednesday", students will engage in an interactive book club based on book #22 in the Magic Tree House series.
Students will learn through a combination of independent reading, peer discussions and teacher-led activities.

Through the use of live video meetings, printable resources and lively conversations, students will delve deeply into the magical and historic world of the Magic Tree House.

Class time will be structured in the following way:

Day 1: Students should come to class with "Magic Tree House: #22 Revolutionary War on Wednesday"; no reading needs to be completed before our first meeting. Class expectations and schedules will be reviewed. We will take a "book walk", previewing the text as a group, including reviewing the facts about the thirteen colonies, George Washington, and Thomas Paine from the back of the book. To preview the topic of our book, we'll complete the "Revolutionary Match Column" activity together (page 2 from the attached class file). Students will individually complete the "Tree Houses Have-Are-Need" worksheet during class (page 3 from the attached class file). Students have the option to print out the two worksheets from our digital class file, or complete the activities on a blank piece of paper; students will need writing tools for today's class. Before class ends, we will read Chapter 1 together. As a group, we will share our predictions for the story, discussing what we think may happen to Jack and Annie.
-Required homework after Day 1 class concludes: read Chapters 2 - 10. Make sure you have completed the entire book before attending our Day 2 class meeting.

Day 2: Prior to attending Day 2, students should read Ch. 2 - 10, completing the book in its entirety. During class, we'll work together to complete the "George Says Thanks" thank you note (page 4 from the attached class file). Additionally, students will work independently to complete the "All About the Visitor" graphic organizer (page 5 from the attached class file). Students have the option to print out the two worksheets from our digital class file, or complete the activities on a blank piece of paper; students will need writing/drawing tools for today's class. While completing these activities, teacher will lead students through discussions of "Revolutionary War on Wednesday". Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged.
-Required homework after Day 2 class concludes: prepare supplies for Day 3 Revolutionary War-inspired craft (page 7 from the attached class file).

Day 3: During class, we'll work together to complete the "Fiction or Non-Fiction" activity (page 6 from the attached class file). Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged. We'll celebrate the completion of our mini book club with a Revolutionary War-inspired craft, cutting & decorating Revolutionary War paper tricorn hats (page 7 from the attached class file)!

Throughout the course of this 3-day class, students will enjoy a beginner-level short novel, while also learning how to organize and speak about their thoughts.
