In this course, students will practice spelling and reading sight words using a Minecraft themed board. We will be using the Kindergarten and 1st grade Dolch sight word lists. At the beginning of class, each student will be given the opportunity to share their favorite Minecraft toy or object, if they wish. Each student will be sent 2 unique bingo cards before class to print out. What to expect: 1. Each student is sent 2 unique Minecraft bingo cards after enrollment (please print out before class) 2. The teacher will use a Google Slide presentation (Minecraft themed) to display each word in an interactive way. The teacher will say the word, spell the word, and will call on students or ask for volunteers to read the sight word in a sentence. Students may pass if they do not feel comfortable. 3. If the student has that word, they can mark their card using cereal, buttons, beans, etc. 4. When a student wins, we will celebrate as a class! 5. We will play several rounds of bingo if time allows. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where all students feel comfortable and gain self-confidence with sight word recognition.
