Class Experience
Hello! I'm so happy you've decided to come and build with us! In this camp style course, we will spend an amazing month and a half together building a village from the bottom up as a cooperative, student-driven adventure! We will have optional live meetings in order to connect, brainstorm about our village and interact with one another. So, how will this work? I will maintain a dedicated server just for this class and a group of ten learners. This is the server we will meet on to build throughout the weeks. Every Monday, I will post a video or text post explaining what we will be working on for that week. The learners will then go into the server and build our project for that week together. They will coordinate builds through idea boards and project boards set up in the game and in the classroom. At the end of the week, they will post pictures or videos of what they personally worked on in the village and explain their contribution to the others. How will the learners interact? We will have optional meetings in order to discuss our village plans with each other. We will keep an ideas board to organize all of our plans. Students will also be encouraged to leave video and/or text comments to each other's projects that are posted in the Outschool classroom. They will learn how to constructively critique each other's work and share ideas. Here is our weekly schedule, which is subject to change: Week 1: Build Your House Week 2: Build a Community Farm Week 2: Live Meeting to Discuss Downtown Buildings Week 3: Build Downtown Week 4: Live meeting to Discuss Zoo Week 4: Build Zoo Week 5: Independent Builds Week 6: Independent Builds/Touch-Ups/Final Class Share Class/Server rules will be given a week or so before camp begins. Students who are in violation of the rules will be spoken to twice, but on the third time, they will be removed from the server and there will be no refunds. It is important that the learners respect one another and each other's builds. This is not a server to free-play on -- it is an active class. It is also important that learners remain flexible and understand we have friends of all different skill levels and ages, and sometimes, mistakes are made. The Bedrock edition of this game is needed. This is the edition that runs on mobile devices/tablets, Switch and computers. Please make sure that if you have Windows, you are running Bedrock and not the Java edition. This is a student-driven project, which means that the teacher will encourage the students to design and organize their builds with one another. There will not be any guided building projects through this camp. If you have any questions about this camp, please let me know!
