Class Experience

We all have some pretty big feelings these days and it is more important than ever to help students discover healthy ways to cope and develop their emotional intelligence. Through yoga movements and breathing practices, students will cultivate self awareness, empathy, kindness and compassion. Students will warm up with Yoga Games such as “Yogi Says” and “Freeze Yoga,” they will practice movements and stretching through storytelling and learn the various poses named after animals and then go on an “adventure walk” to “see” each of the animals. Students will be encouraged to develop their curiosity by learning to be fully present in the moment, asking questions, listening as well as speaking and mirroring in a conversation to ensure they understand. This course will also focus on relationship building and encouraging responsible decision making. Ideally, students will leave their yoga mats and go out into the world equipped with the knowledge to be the best version of themselves.

Students can expect to spend about half of our class time doing yoga and movement and about half of the class time discussing social emotional learning. We will discuss a different aspect of social emotional learning such as self awareness, empathy, compassion, curiosity relationship skills and responsible decision making. The teacher will follow the lead of the students, if they want to delve deeper into a particular area of social emotional learning, then the plan will be adjusted to focus more time on that aspect. Students will be asked to formulate a creative response at the end of class. This can be in the form of a journal entry or written response, a drawing, a video diary or a collage. The type of response will be up to the student. Students can share if they would like to, but they are not required to do so.

Ms. Sarah is also trained to work with neurodiverse students, and encourages you to let her know if you have any exceptionalities when registering.

Cameras must be on for the entirety of the class.

All learners must be enrolled students; if two learners are sharing a device, both learners must be enrolled per Outschool policies.

Having a water bottle nearby is helpful. Please note that with any physical fitness classes, there is always a small risk of injury, especially if the student is not provided with an appropriate space or supervision.
