Mindful Minutes for Ages 6 & 7. Learn About Mindfulness Through Story and Play!

Mindfulness and meditation. How do we calm our "Monkey Mind?" In this one time class, students will learn about mindfulness and meditation through stories and play.

Class Experience

Beginner Level
In this one time class, students will learn what mindfulness means and what it means to be mindful. Students will also learn how to calm down their "monkey mind." For example, "monkey mind" is when we may have worries, anxiety, and feeling different emotions. I will teach through story and play. 

We will participate in some gentle mindful movement and breathing exercises. The story telling will act as guided mediations that will allow the student to use their imaginations. By using storytelling and play, the students will learn how to discover their own peace in the present moment.
     
At the end of each session, we will share about our experiences. I will provide questions from the storytelling that will allow the students to engage in discussion if they choose to share. I will also share some mindfulness tools during class. No purchase is necessary. They will be included during class and used for teaching purposes. The supplies needed are a yoga mat or a blanket if the student doesn't want to sit in a chair. The mindful movement will be light and gentle. The gentle movement can be done sitting in a chair too. The student may also bring a small stuffed animal. Such as a beanie baby or small squishmallow. At times, we will use them to teach balance and use for present moment awareness. 
   
I am a Certified Kids Yoga teacher with a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification. I've been teaching Kids Yoga for the past 9 years. I also have a B.S. Degree in Child Development and Psychology. I enjoy helping students learn and grow! It has been a passion of mine in the last 9 years to teach mindfulness, yoga and meditation to children. I look forward to meeting everyone in class!

Learning Goals

Students will learn what Mindfulness means. Mindfulness means to be aware and be in the present moment. Students will also learn how to self-regulate their emotions using various tools that will be taught in class.

Supply List
