Syllabus
8 Lessons
over 8 WeeksLesson 1:
Introduction to Mindfulness
In this first lesson, kids will be introduced to the concept of mindfulness. We’ll discuss what it means to be "mindful" and how it can help us focus and manage our emotions. Through a simple breathing exercise (like "balloon breathing") and a fun mindfulness game, students will begin to notice their thoughts and feelings without judgment. The goal is to create a welcoming space where kids feel excited to explore mindfulness.

Lesson 2:
Mindful Breathing
In this lesson, we’ll dive deeper into breathing exercises to help kids calm their minds and bodies. Through activities like "flower and candle breathing," where they pretend to smell a flower and blow out a candle, students will learn how breathing can help them regulate their emotions in stressful situations. We’ll also discuss when to use these breathing techniques, like during tests or when feeling overwhelmed.

Lesson 3:
Mindful Listening
Kids will practice being fully present with their sense of hearing. We’ll play the "Sound Safari" game where students close their eyes and focus on identifying sounds around them (in nature, in the classroom, or using sound recordings). This helps them build attention skills and strengthens their ability to tune out distractions. We’ll reflect on how mindful listening can help us pay attention to others and our surroundings.

Lesson 4:
Mindful Movement
In this lesson, we’ll introduce mindful movement through gentle stretches and yoga-inspired poses. Kids will practice moving slowly and noticing how their bodies feel in each position. By connecting movement with breath, they’ll learn how to use physical activity as a tool for relaxation and focus. We’ll also play a game like "Mindful Statues," where students freeze in poses and notice the sensations in their bodies.
