Assessment
The class is intended to be a fun exploration of mindfulness and drawing.

Class Experience

In this ongoing class, we will create a different drawing each week connected to mindful breathing and experimentation with drawing materials. Being mindful simply means paying attention to the present moment, without judgement. Creating drawings in this way can be very calming and relaxing. This class is great for transitional times such as after school or before bedtime.

We will begin each class with breathing and/or quiet time. Then we will create an abstract drawing connected to that experience of breathing or quiet time. For example, we might take breaths and imagine the breaths are ocean waves coming in and out of the shore. Then we might create an abstract drawing of waves.

Learners may use whatever drawing materials they have available. As the instructor I will use basic art vocabulary such as shape, line, pattern, and color. The instructor will provide instruction as to how to use the art materials and the elements of art (shape, line, etc.) however the learners may interpret the instructions in a variety of ways. The goal is to create art in the spirit of fun and relaxation, with no judgement.

The class will be structured as follows: 5 minutes for check in and slide presentation (which may include: mindful moment or breathing, art vocabulary, art sample) 20 minutes for drawing, 5 minutes for sharing.

The sequence of lessons is as follows:
Week of August 21) Draw your Breath- Flowing Lines Abstract Drawing
Week of August 28) What do you See?- Crumpled Paper Abstract Drawing
