Mind Map a Short Story

This one-meeting class teaches your learner how to mind map a short story. We come up with ideas for where the character is, what is around them, what their problem is, and how they might solve it. Ideas that can lead to a great story!

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Beginner Level
Objective:
In this class, students will learn how to use the mind mapping writing strategy to break through writer’s block and start a short story!

For this class your learner will be interacting with each other and me to:
1) Learn how to mind map a story
2) Share with other learners in the class 5 minutes

Students will need the following materials:
- paper or a writing journal
- pen or pencil (their writing preference)

My teaching style for this lesson is to ask questions, demonstrate step-by-step how to mind map, allowing students to draw their own mind maps with their own topics (based on an open-ended prompt, like one of my favorite places), to share our ideas as we go, and then to organize and write for a few minutes.

Prior Knowledge:
Students need to be able to understand the lesson in English and write sentences in English; however, they do not have to be fluent in order to take this course.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use the mind mapping writing strategy to break through writer’s block to generate ideas for a story.
