This course will cover the Middle School NGSS Physical Science Standards in a hands-on and engaging way! Real-world problems, situations, and problem-based learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course. Students will have multiple opportunities to interact with other students and the instructor throughout this course in order to get the most out of their online experience. Students will meet for a live meeting once a week for instruction, demonstrations, group work, and experiments. The rest of the week will provide students the opportunity to complete projects, interact with other classmates through platforms such as Outschool discussions, and complete online simulations. Students will also have access to an online textbook and additional resources through CK12.org. Students will have multiple performance assessments throughout the course in order to assess their understanding in addition to problem-based learning projects and experiments. Unit 1: Atoms Week 1: Atomic Structure Week 2: Atomic Mass, Atomic Number and Isotopes Week 3: Ions Week 4: Acids and Bases Week 5: The Periodic Table Unit 2: Chemistry Week 6: Elements Week 7: Compounds and Mixtures Week 8: Lewis Dot Diagrams Students who are already taking Physical Science can enroll for additional support and practice. Homeschooled students can enroll in a complete Physical Science curriculum. Students will meet once a week for a live lesson. After this lesson, students will be given several options to complete homework for the week including worksheets, labs, and projects.
