*All instructors are certified financial educators by the national financial educators' council* This Flex course will provide students with engaging lessons and presentations to inspire them to make positive financial decisions. Students will be provided with access to engaging lessons and assignments to participate in interactive simulations and assessments. Videos will be uploaded weekly along with practice assignments, homework, and additional resources. Students will use the Outschool classroom to access all materials and homework. The weekly schedule will include the following: Monday: Pre-Recorded video lesson with exposure and instruction of the concept. Students will be given homework to choose from to complete by Thursday. Tuesday & Wednesday: Students will work on their assignments on their own. They can message me for additional assistance during this time. Thursday: Review activity will be posted. These financial literacy lessons will integrate real-world and engaging topics. Students will be provided with several different options for homework every week which include visual, real-world, and concrete assignments. Students will have the opportunity to engage with one another through platforms such as Flipgrid and discussions in the Outschool classroom. Students will participate in engaging and interactive platforms such as Kahoot, EdPuzzle, and Quizziz in order for me to accurately assess. The following topics will be covered throughout the course. Week 1: Financial Decisions -How do lifestyle habits influence how I manage my money? -How do the decisions I make now affect the lifestyle I will have later? Week 2: Spending and Saving -Where do I fall on the spectrum of savings/spending and how has this changed over time? Week 3: Accounts and Savings -Why would I want to save? What are the various types of bank accounts? Week 4: Investing and Budgets -What is the best financial plan to pay for my anticipated big life events? -What type of investment plan will best fit my life goals? Week 5: Income and Careers, and Entrepreneurship -How does the cost of different career preparation programs relate to the expected financial return? Week 6: Entrepreneurship -What are some of the different kinds of businesses and what benefits does each hold? -What are some of the social/economic/environmental impacts of different professions? Week 7: Credit -What is credit? -Should I use credit? How can I build good credit? Week 8: Debt and Loans -How do accumulated interest and principle affect total loan cost? -How does overall financial wellness affect your opportunities with credit and lending?
