US Grade 5 - 8
Students will learn about the supercontinent pangea, the theories of how pangea changed into the continents we have today, and how the movement of earth's crust creates landforms. Students must have pangea plate pieces cut out before class. Class 1: They will learn about Continental Drift, Plate Tectonic Theories, and the major plates on Earth. They will use Pangea plate cut out pieces and try to put together to look like pangea. They will write notes and and create diagrams for each type of plate boundary (divergent, convergent, transform) Class 2: They will continue learning about boundaries and what landforms the boundaries form on Earth. They will do a graham cracker plate tectonics activity using graham crackers and whip cream.
Learning Goals
Students will demonstrate, by modeling, how landforms are created by different plate boundaries.
Students will understand the theory of plate tectonics.
