Beginner Level
During this class, students will learn the basic functions of Microsoft Excel and get hands-on practice. This class will not only teach the basics of Excel, but it will excite students to discover ways they can use Excel in their everyday lives. This is a Self-Paced Subscription class, so there are no live sessions, nor teacher feedback. Students will have access to four pre-recorded lessons that I created exclusively for Outschool. During the recording, I share my screen so students can watch me using Excel as I describe its functions. Learners are encouraged to use Excel as they watch the recording, so that they can follow along and gain hands-on practice. The recordings are 33-37 minutes, but may take longer to complete, depending on if the student pauses/rewinds as they watch and complete their tasks in Excel. After each recorded lesson, there will be a recommended activity that adds to the previously worked on Excel file. These activities will help reinforce the skills the learner learned during the most recent recording. They are designed to take between 5 and 20 minutes to complete. For a detailed lesson plan, please see the "Syllabus" section. Topics covered will include: • Vocabulary (cell, column, row, worksheet, formula, budget, sum) • Organizing data • Gridlines • Formatting cells (color, font, currency, time) • SUM, COUNT, and AVERAGE functions • Multiplication, Subtraction, Division, Addition formulas • Sorting and filtering cells • Pie, bar, and line graphs Students do not need any experience with Excel, but should have basic desktop or laptop knowledge, such as the ability to use a mouse, use a keyboard and open a program.
Learning Goals
Students will comprehend Microsoft Excel vocabulary (cell, column, row, worksheet, formula, budget, sum)
Students will be able to implement formatting (color, font, number type for currency and time, gridlines)
