Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
This class is Part 1 of the Microbiology Research Series. However, learners can take each part out of order as each class does not build on each other. Background knowledge is NOT required for this class.

Each week, we will research and discuss a different microbes (bacteria, viruses, and parasites) following the schedule below.
Week of June 3 - 1.	Bacillus anthracis (bacteria)
Week of June 10 - 2.	Human beef tapeworm (parasite)
Week of June 17 -3.	Astrovirus
Week of June 24 - 4. Bordatella pertussis (bacteria)
5.	Entamoeba histolytica (parasite)
6.	Chikungunya virus
7.	Yersinia pestis (bacteria)
8.	Trichinella (parasite)
9.	Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (virus)
10.	Mycobacterium tuberculosis (bacteria)
11.	Acanthamoeba (bacteria)
12.	Dengue (virus)

After researching the 12 microbes, the class is going to cycle back to the microbe #1.

Some of the information that we will be covered for each microbe includes:
What type of microbe is it?
Where is it common found?
Who are the hosts?
What is the transmission method for the microbe?
Which disease/illness does it cause?
What are some symptoms associated with bacterial infections?

The class will primarily be structured as a discussion guided by the research and information that learners find during class.

After researching the 12 microbes, learners can download the google doc used in class to put together a mini encyclopedia on microbes.
