Class Experience

In this one-time course, students will use printable number mats (provided by the teacher for parents to print before class), dry-erase markers, play dough, and shaving cream to build number recognition, number sense, and number writing skills as they have fun. Students will have the opportunity to build fine motor skills as they explore each activity included in this hands-on course.
The teacher will introduce each number one at a time using the number mats provided for families to print out before class. (A plastic page protector/sleeve is recommended to help the mats be reusable for more learning fun and practice even after the class ends.)

The teacher will guide students in using play dough to create each number using the number mats as a guide. After creating the number in play dough, the students will use the ten-frame included on the mat to count using one-to-one correspondence while making balls of play dough to place the correct number of play dough balls in the ten-frame. The teacher will lead the students in repeating this process until they have completed these activities for each number 7-9.

After the students have created the number with play dough and gained some number sense using play dough and the ten-frame, they will use a cookie tray or mat with shaving cream spread on it to continue practicing writing the number and drawing the corresponding number of shapes or items. The teacher will direct the students in using the shaving cream until this activity has been completed for each of the numbers 7-9. When the student has had the opportunity to experiment with number writing using shaving cream, the student will be given the opportunity to clean their hands.

The students will then be directed back to the number mats. The teacher will direct the students to remove the play dough number from their mat. Once the play dough number has been removed, the students will be encouraged to use a dry-erase marker to draw the number using the mat as a guide. The students will remove the play dough balls from the ten-frame and count the printed balls in the ten-frame. After using the number guide and ten-frame, the student will use the line provided and write the number without using the guide to determine their progress in writing each number.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
1) Parental guidance will be necessary during this class as we use a variety of materials. 2) Parents will need to print the provided number mat before class. Placing the number mat inside a plastic page protector or sleeve will make the mat easier to use and reusable. 3) Parental guidance is necessary as we use materials that can be messy if they are not used in the areas intended. Parents may also need to open play dough lids, squirt shaving cream on to the tray, and remove and replace marker lids as needed.
Supply List
1)	Print each of the 3 provided number mats before class (placing this in a plastic page protector is recommended to help students
be more successful and to allow each mat to be reusable).

3)	A container of play dough
4)	A cookie sheet or mat
