50 mins in-class hoursAssessment
Students are assessed based on participation. This includes trying their best in drawing the items shown as well as the creativity to add their own details and make their painting their own. This also includes being a kind and respectful participant in class, which my students always are.Class Experience
In this fun watercolor class, I'll show students step-by-step how to draw a simple Mermaid! Just like in the Weekly Nature Watercolor class, I offer the basic elements and then allow students to use their creativity and imagination to add extra details to their drawings and make modifications to creat a masteriece they love. Then we'll spend time painting, and at the end all students who would like to share will have the opportunity to be in th Spotlight and share their artwork. Join us for some Mermaid fun and bring the peaceful and uplifting feel of the ocean to your life all year long. This will be a beautiful way for students to be able to gather and spend time together building community while also expressing and sharing their creativity! I hope to see you there!

Hi! My name is Caitlin Sanders, and I love teaching. :) Kids are my favorite people and it is a joy to connect with them in teaching & learning each day.
**Starting Jan. 2nd, 2024, I'll be teaching online full-time so I won't have as many class times available. I will still make time in my schedule to teach classes on Saturday mornings and some weekday evenings as I'm able to -- so feel free to reach out with any requests! I'll be happy to try to accommodate you!**
I have a passion for storytelling and love to combine stories, nature, and writing into my thematic and engaging classes.
I believe every child has a unique perspective and a unique voice that deserves to be heard. In my classes I help students uncover this through reading stories and by supporting them in writing their own.
I also love nature and so I often incorporate nature into my classes as well. :) Nature has a magical way of helping us to connect more deeply with ourselves and with those around us.
I have a compassionate approach to teaching and learning...and, to life! This comes across in my classes as patience, a genuine caring, and a dedication to supporting each student in a way that builds their confidence and unique sense of self so they can shine and bring their truest, most authentic selves and experiences to the world.
I truly care about every child I teach. I love using music to enhance my classes, and encourage students to discover and express their own creativity.
I grew up in Iowa City, IA and currently live in Portland, OR. I have an adorable little dog I fell in love with when I went to the shelter looking for a big dog. Turns out, I was destined for this cute little ten pound guy instead! :) We enjoy training and learning new tricks, as well as peaceful, awe-inspiring walks through the woods where we have many adventures on the trail!
The following quotation by Holocaust survivor Jay Sommer was at the the heart of my mission as a public school teacher and I continue to carry it forward in everything I do:
"Inspiring students with a sense of their own worth gives them the confidence to express themselves more freely, to explore and learn through their mistakes, and to regard learning as an adventure."
It is such a joy to now bring that passion and enthusiasm to connect with students online. :)
I'd love to work with your child to inspire them with a sense of their own confidence and creativity, abundance and longevity in the world. I believe your child deserves the very best, always.
