Class Experience

Class Experience
In this course learners will engage in exploring growth mindset to understand themselves better and apply the skills to their sport. Using Carol S. Dweck’s (Ph. D.) work on Growth Mindset we will explore the difference between a fixed and growth mindset. Learners will engage in self-discovery questions, positive self-talk promoting good mental well-being. Learners will explore tips, tricks and techniques to calm the mind, focus, and become more resilient as athletes.
Session 1: Learn about Intention through personal development questions and determine the athlete’s reason for playing sport.
Examine negative self-talk and positive self-talk. Learn techniques to create personalized ways to fire the “inner-critic” and promote the “inner-cheerleader” to improve better focus and determination.
Session 2: Explore fixed and growth mindset, determine what individual learner style you display and explore ways to become more resilient. Determine the athletes’ growth mindset area(s) to work on and strategies to improve; become committed to learning and growing.
Learning Goals
By the end of sessions learners will know their intention for playing the game, their learning style preference, what grit is and how to improve it, their individualized negative and positive self-talk, and the difference between growth and fixed mindset and how all of this applies to their sport.
