This is a one-time class to meet, learn, and ask questions about the exotic animals that we have rescued. For those interested in my Exotic Animals course, this can serve as an introductory class to meet the animals I will be teaching about more in-depth in the course. This class is just a lot of fun as your students meet the animals and see all the funny interactions we have with them each day. I will cover a few basics about the animals and answer questions. We have 6 parrots of varying species, 3 different species of snakes, Leopard Geckos, Bearded Dragon, Tarantula, Hedgehog, Jersey Wolley Rabbit, and a rare parti-poodle and one another poodle. Plus we have a mouse that was purchased for food, but was too cute for my daughter and is now number 18!
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to 16 different animals, their habitats, food, cleaning, behavior, etc.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
As my animals are almost all rescues, they have not been trained from birth. Their behavior can sometimes be a little crazy and funny, but I have also been bit by one of the Macaws resorting in 4 stitches. This was a rare, one-time event, but when working with wild animals, always a possibility.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
No sources will be needed for this one-time course.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Utah State University
I have been around animals all of my life and started working with exotics in 2014. Since then I have started my own company, rescued and rehomed many animals, and helped and released wild animals when possible. I have taught classes in the community and many schools in our local school districts. The animals have also served with Operation Underground Railroad bringing attention to the children who need to be rescued and raising funds to help that happen.
