This is a one hour introductory course on axolotls. I will teach what an axolotl is, and what makes it unique. Students will learn the history and biology of axolotls, as well as how to care for one at home. Topics covered: -The geographical region axolotls are from, the culture around them (their name, their role in the community, etc), and their current status in the wild -How axolotls became available in the United States, and their rise in popularity as pets -What an axolotl needs to survive and thrive both in the wild and in a home aquarium This class will be a combination of lecture with slides, live observation of animals, and student discussion. There will be a foundational basis of information to be presented, but each class will expand on the areas students are most interested in, have the most questions about and can learn the most! No previous knowledge is necessary, and no matter how much your learner does or doesn't know about axolotls, there will be something new in this course for every learner, whether you have never heard of axolotls, or you already have one at home.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the history, biology and husbandry of axolotls through discussion, lecture, and observation.

Supply List
If you learn best by taking notes, I recommend a notebook and something to write with! The slides I use will be made available to all my students, so you will have access to this information after the class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm Aly Millard, and everyone calls me Miss M. I am from Colorado and I absolutely love biology! I am licensed in K-6 Elementary Education, and K-12 Science Education. I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and a Master of Education in Integrated Curriculum. For five years, I taught 4th and 5th grade in a classroom. Now, I own an exotic pet store! I love raising and caring for my animals, and being able to teach students about animals they may not have the opportunity to interact with at home. I developed a love for biology, and specifically marine biology from a very young age, and I wish there had been a platform like Outschool for me to expand my knowledge outside my classroom.
