Hello and welcome! In this class, we will be exploring the states of matter in a fun and interactive way by making ice cream! We will begin the class by discussing the states of matter and applying them to the ingredients used in our experiment/recipe. We will identify the state of matter of each ingredient. We will discuss the phase changes that take place in matter and try to predict what phase change(s) we will observe during our class. After we have discussed the states of matter, we will begin our experiment. We will be making ice cream in a bag! This is a simple but fun and tasty experiment. Then we will talk about our results and eat, of course! This class will help bring fun and sweetness to exploring the states of matter! This class will be fun and interactive. It will begin with introductions and then a lecture style portion of the class. Students will be asked questions and given the opportunity to participate. The remainder of the class will be hands on and then it will end in a discussion. I ask that cameras remain on and that students give teachers and others the opportunity to speak uninterrupted. No prior knowledge is needed for this class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the phases of matter. They will learn and observe how phase changes occur through a hands on and tasty experiment. They will also learn how to make predictions (hypothesis) and to follow step-by-step instructions.
