What's included

2 live meetings
1 hrs 40 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. I usually give my students extra material to practice; we also re-work certain key homework exercises, so that they can understand the underlying patterns of thought in these math problems.
Assessment
When requested by the parents, an informal assessment can be made every 2-3 weeks, to see the student's progress and to tune and adjust the program we're working on.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
We get acquainted during the first few sessions, and I encourage both the parents and the student to send the material they are struggling with or want to work on. From there, I can create a plan of study for the different topics and mathematical abilities that the student is learning.

We cover topics typically from the Common Core curriculum, although some students might prefer to have an integrated approach.

We cover foundational topics in math such as fractions, decimals, percentages and probabilities and their amazing applications. We also delve into Statistics and Probability, and in-depth Geometry. For the more advanced students, we go straight into Precalculus, Calculus and on occasion, I also teach Physics courses to some of my students.

My style is very adaptable, depending on my students' reasoning and visualization qualities and talents.

We tackle the stressful areas in my students' math classes; I provide guidance and assistance when they need to solve specific homework assignments. If there's time to spare, I ALWAYS have additional exercises or questions to tackle that help my students deepen their understanding and agility of different mathematical treats.

For me, the essence of teaching math is to allow the student's mind to grasp the concepts at hand in a practical and non-stressful way so that everything clicks naturally and progressively.

I have 12+ years of experience teaching grades 4 to 12; I also tutor College Math, including Calculus and its applications to Biology and Medicine; Probability and Statistics and the like.

I also want to say that the added value that I bring to the table, is that, as a mathematician, I'm able to see the big picture of math, and instill in my students the art of math modelling; which is, to reveal the patterns of how to scientifically and creatively predict the world around us.
Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm a mathematician and a classical and jazz pianist. I'm a bilingual math and music teacher; I've been teaching K-12 Math, teaching piano lessons and performing for more than ten years in the US, Canada, and México.

I'm a Fulbright scholar with a master's in jazz and a double major in mathematics and classical piano. I also love Computer Science and have been working for a Data Science company for two years now.

Everything is easy, and everyone can learn any ability or topic; it's a combination of practice, a clever approach, and some guidance along the way; that's what makes the learning equation magical!

It is also essential to understand every student's strengths and adapt, as a teacher and guide, to their needs and their way of understanding the world.

Perhaps one of the most important tools I use when solving a problem is to construct a simpler scenario and use that to understand the original problem; this way, everything seems a little bit easier to understand. Our ability to imagine a more straightforward scenario is one of the fundamental tools we can use in math and any other human activity - less is MORE!

The greatest advantage of having a tutor is that you'll have a guide along the way that has travelled through many of the places you are now travelling and can lead you along the way. The idea is to walk together, have fun and improve our math skills!

I've always taken this approach with my students, and it all works out better than we expect in the end!
