Class Experience
"A Story of Ratios" from the EngageNY common core math curriculum provides the following framework for teaching math concepts. We can start anywhere depending on what your student is comfortable with and what they need to know next. Math 6: Ratios and Unit Rates; Arithmetic Operations Including Dividing by a Fraction; Rational Numbers; Expressions and Equations; Area, Surface Area, and Volume Problems; and Statistics. Math 7: Ratios and Proportional Relationships; Rational Numbers; Expressions and Equations; Percent and Proportional Relationships; Statistics and Probability; and Geometry. Math 8: Integer Exponents and Scientific Notation; the Concept of Congruence; Similarity; Linear Equations; Examples of Functions from Geometry; Linear Functions; and Introduction to Irrational Numbers Using Geometry.
Homework is not always required but may be assigned occasionally to reinforce what is taught.
If Nearpod is used, the student will be given a code to join the lesson.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Each learner will be assessed in their regular school environment. They will naturally see improvement in their grades as their competence and confidence grows.
