Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
The tutoring session will support the learner in any math topics where they need assistance. It can be tailored to a specific topic that the student wants to review or it can simply be working through homework problems together. We will move at the learner's pace. I will guide them through any difficulties while encouraging growth and confidence!

Some examples of topics that students might need assistance on include:
-Prealgebra: Order of operations, fractions, decimals, percent
-Algebra 1: Linear equations, graphing lines, systems of equations, exponents, and polynomials.
-Algebra II: Quadratic equations, rational expressions, logarithms, exponential functions, and conic sections.
-Geometry: Properties of shapes, angles, congruence, similarity, the Pythagorean theorem, and trigonometry basics.
-Trigonometry: Trigonometric functions, solving triangles, trigonometric identities, and inverse trigonometric functions.
-Pre-Calculus: Functions and their properties, trigonometry concepts
Calculus: Differentiation, integration, applications of derivatives and integrals, and limits.

***NOTE: You must respond to the Welcome Post in the classroom to let me know what math class these tutoring sessions are going to be supplementing. If I receive no communication from the learner or parent at least 24 hours prior to the session, I will cancel the session.

If the student wants to work on problems from their own worksheets or online program, you must send me the file or screenshots of the assignment prior to each meeting. I will create a whiteboard to share on screen to work with. That allows us to focus on working on the math instead of having to deal with technical difficulties.

However, you do not have to provide any materials! Just let me know what topic you need help with.
I can create a lesson to teach and practice a topic, if that is the goal of the session. I will need to know the topic of interest at least 48 hours before the session to give me time to gather resources and create a lesson.

I can also develop a longer term plan if you have a learner who either needs to remediate the skills of in one of the high school math courses or who wants to move ahead in math quickly. Feel free to contact me if you are seeking that type of support over several sessions.

If I receive no communication from the learner or parent at least 24 hours prior to the session, I will cancel the session. If we will be working from materials for an existing class, make sure that I receive a file or screenshots of the problems your child wants to work on at least a few hours before the session. That will ensure that we can maximize math learning time rather than dealing with technical issues during the session.

My teaching certification is for mathematics for grades 8-12. For over a decade, I taught in public and private middle and high school classrooms. I have taught and tutored everything from pre-algebra up to AP Calculus. I have also written curriculum for several websites.

My main philosophy behind teaching is to make math less scary, since so many people unfortunately think it is! I believe everyone can do math, you may just need to boost your confidence a little.

Contact me if you need tutoring, whether one time or weekly. I can almost always fit you into my schedule!

I have been homeschooling my 2 kids for the last 8 years. My oldest child is attending university now and my younger child is in 4th grade. In my spare time (if there is any), I like to read dystopian novels and knit.
