What will be taught: Day One: What is a fraction, dividing into units Language of a fraction: numerator, denominator Terms used for fractions: fraction, denominator, numerator What is a proper fraction, and improper fractions How to simplify fractions Day Two: Equivalent fractions Terms to remember: divisor, factor, simplest form, equivalent, lowest term, higher term, mixed number, reduced fraction, improper fraction, proper fraction, common denominator Which fraction is larger or smaller Changing improper fractions to mixed numbers Changing mixed numbers to improper numbers Students will also get a review on fraction on day one and two Students will be quizzed on fractions for both days. Students will participate on solving fractions problems, either through white board, slides, discussion etc. Work sheet will be given for practice for both days. Required: Students must know multiplication and division.
Learning Goals
Student will learn how to divide fractions and how to identify a fraction as a proper or improper fraction. Will learn to divide a number into equal parts. Will understand how to find the lowest common denominator or find which fraction are larger, or put fractions in size order.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parental guidance in case of technical difficulties or logging on. Students do not need any expensive toys, furnishings or other items. They do need well designed space that is safe for the student to do activities/projects. Parental guidance is necessary incase student needs help with an activity with guidance. Such as gluing, cutting with scissors etc. There are no third party websites that will be used for each week for the lessons or signing in for accounts.
