Students will learn everything they need to know during class. I'll adjust the class to meet each child's needs. For example, we may listen to stories instead of reading out loud or write a story together if that's what the students need.
For our exciting journey through "Nature's Classroom: A Hands-On Learning Adventure," learners will need a few basic materials to fully engage with the activities planned. Here's what you'll need:

Nature Journal: Any notebook or sketchpad for recording observations, drawings, and reflections during our nature walks and outdoor explorations. (Approx. $5-$10)

Writing Utensils: Pencils, colored pencils, and/or markers for journaling and projects. (Approx. $3-$10)

Basic Craft Supplies: Construction paper, glue, scissors, and tape for various crafting projects. (Approx. $10-$15)

Simple Gardening Tools: A small pot, soil, and seeds for our plant growth observations. (Approx. $10)

Household Items for Experiments: Common kitchen ingredients or recyclables for STEAM experiments will be listed prior to relevant sessions. (No additional cost)

Access to a Computer or Tablet: For interactive digital resources and activities. (No additional cost assuming availability)

A Compass: For orientation activities (optional, approx. $5-$15)

I will provide a one-page handout during our first session with more details and any additional items we might explore. Most materials are common household items or easily accessible at local stores.

Our "Nature's Classroom: A Hands-On Learning Adventure" is designed with the safety and well-being of neurodivergent learners at the forefront. The class activities are crafted to be engaging and educational, fostering a love for learning through a connection with nature. However, there are a few aspects where parental guidance or oversight is recommended:

Outdoor Activities: For sessions that involve outdoor exploration, such as nature walks or plant growth observations, learners may need assistance or supervision, especially in unfamiliar environments including forests, creeks, nature trails, and outdoor exploration. This ensures their safety while engaging with the natural world.

STEAM Projects: Some STEAM activities might involve basic tools or materials (e.g., scissors for crafting, kitchen ingredients for simple experiments). We recommend that parents or guardians oversee these activities to ensure safe handling and use of materials.

Use of Digital Platforms: Our course incorporates interactive digital resources, including approved third-party tools like educational websites or apps for enhancing learning experiences. No accounts will be required for learners to access these resources, ensuring privacy and safety.

Sensitive Content: All class content is selected with care to be appropriate and uplifting for young learners. However, discussions on topics like conservation and environmental change are conducted with sensitivity, aiming to educate without causing distress or anxiety.
Our curriculum is enriched with content from reputable sources that align with our educational goals:

Books: A selection of age-appropriate books focusing on nature, science, and environmental stewardship.

Websites: Educational sites like National Geographic Kids, NASA’s Climate Kids, and PBS LearningMedia, providing interactive and multimedia resources.

Local Resources: Depending on the locality, we may reference local nature reserves, parks, or conservation initiatives as part of our study of ecosystems and biodiversity.
