This is a high level introduction to the Fibonacci sequence. Students will learn about the Italian mathematician Fibonacci. They will learn why he is remembered and uncover the sequence he discovered. Students will then learn how this sequence is repeated throughout nature by drawing the sequence and sharing items they have brought to class. Students will discuss their ideas, observations and opinions. If time students will create their own sequence and solve others and test their knowledge of what they have learned through a quiz game. This class utilizes Nearpod for a more interactive experience.
The goal of this lesson is to inspire curiosity about mathematics and its relationship to nature.
Students will be able to:
Define number sequence
Understand who Leonardo Fibonacci was
Identify the Fibonacci Sequence
Recognize this pattern in nature
An electronic handout will be provided which can be printed.
