This class is designed for 2nd and 3rd graders who love basketball and want to sharpen their math skills in an exciting, interactive way. Our sessions combine the thrill of Jeopardy-style games with essential math concepts, making learning both fun and engaging. Class Structure: Each class will begin with a brief discussion question to get students thinking and talking about the topic of the day. These discussions will help students connect math concepts to real-world basketball scenarios, fostering a deeper understanding of the material. Warm-Up Activity: To kick off each session, students will complete a mental math worksheet designed to warm up their math skills. These worksheets will include problems related to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, tailored to the 2nd and 3rd grade level. This activity ensures that students are ready and focused for the main lesson. Jeopardy Game: The highlight of our class is the Jeopardy game, hosted on JeopardyLabs. Students will be divided into teams and take turns selecting questions from various categories, such as: Jersey Numbers: Focuses on place value and number identification. Team Scores: Involves addition and subtraction of points. Player Stats: Covers multiplication and division through player performance statistics. Game Summaries: Combines multiple operations to analyze game outcomes. Scoreboard: Emphasizes understanding and comparing larger numbers.
