US Grade 3 - 6
This 6 week class will focus on developing math skill proficiencies in first grade. The class is designed for one on one, 45 minute private tutoring. Individualized instruction will allow for stress free, self paced, learning in an environment that meets the specific academic needs of the learner. I will use the following curriculum map to deliver instruction that addresses the following learning objectives. We can decide the specific content for the four weeks together. Here is an example. Week 1 Counting to 100, skip counting by 2, 5, and 10. Read and write numbers to twenty. Week 2 Math symbols, comparing and ordering numbers, greater than, less than, and equal to, 10 more and 10 less, create equations Week 3 Place Value Week 3 Add and subtract within 10 and 20 using single and double digits without regrouping Week 4 Missing addends Week 5 2D vs 3D shapes Week 6 operations in addition and subtraction Other subjects: Money, Time, picture models, measurement Time to the hour and half hour using digital and analog models Measurement Length vs. height Money Coins names and values Fractions Whole, Half, and Fourths of a circle, square, and rectangle. Represent a fraction with a picture and fraction model Students will learn the math standards and learning objectives for first grade by engaging in fun, meaningful learning experiences. I will use a variety of tools and hands of activities. Students in my class will learn the vocabulary associated with the skills taught in hopes of developing connections and building a more comprehensive understanding.

Hi Parents! Thank you for your interest in my classes. I offer a wide variety of classes within the life skills, language arts, math, and science content areas. My most popular classes are private math tutoring, shoe tying, introduction to writing and a variety of creative arts classes. These classes are designed for students in elementary through grade 6. I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have taught students from many cultures and backgrounds. I have taught all content subjects in every elementary grade as well as 6th grade Language Arts. I have taught students on line, in public, parochial, homebound, after school, and in enrichment settings. To date, I have taught over 8,000 virtual on-line classes! I am a licensed teacher, administrator, instructional coach, and also have my academically gifted certification. I earned my masters in school administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a highly-qualified bachelors in K-6 from Elon College/University. In addition, I have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education. How we learn and the stages we move through are always taken into account when creating and delivering instruction. In my classroom, I use a wide variety of instructional strategies and research based methodologies to meet the individual learning styles and interests of my students. I use inquiry based learning and believe students learn best when their learning styles and interests are part of the classroom experience. Relationships are an essential part of a students success both in and out of the classroom. Building strong relationships with my students is at the core of my instructional approach. I am a lifelong learner and want to inspire my love for learning with all of my students, in hopes they will be too. Teaching is my passion but in my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, embroidery, spending time outdoors and being on the water. I am happiest when playing with my eight year old grandson Alex and our adorable dog Gracie. I hope you will check out my catalog of classes.
