Though this FLEX version of the course includes no live class time, please see below the various ways we will interact over the course of this learning experience:

~Interaction by responses to instructional videos~
Each week, I will post one or two videos (fully in Spanish), one for each focus of the week. In these videos, we will practice the number skills using a variety of objects to count and will pull our knowledge through to real-life uses, such as time-telling on an analogue clock, counting coins, and reading a calendar. I will ask the learners to respond with a video practicing each concept in Spanish (e.g. skip-counting by twos to twenty using provided visual reminder). (These videos can be recorded through the integrated Zoom function in the Outschool classroom page.) They can then comment with positive feedback on one another's videos. I will provide encouraging feedback, and pointers as needed, on the learners' recordings.

~Interaction through feedback on worksheets~
Each week, I provide two worksheets--one to be completed while watching one of our videos, so I guide the learners through the worksheet, and another for learners to complete on their own afterward. Learners can SUBMIT a photo of each of their completed worksheets as a comment in the classroom and comment on each other's work, as well as receive feedback from the instructor.

~Interaction through LEARNER-TO-LEARNER challenges~
Each week, learners will issue a particular kind of challenge to the other learners. Each learner needs to respond to at least one of the classmate's challenges. These will be, for example, challenges to read a large number that the first learner has written for us in digits, to count and report how many of a certain item the first learner took a picture of, or write or create digits for a large number that the first learner speaks. (I will provide an example challenge each time for learners to be able to respond to and practice.)

~Interaction through sharing successes on Kahoot quizzes for review on weeks 3 and 6.~

The worksheets will sometimes include writing, recognizing or tracing the written out word names for numbers as well.

Please note that my written posts to the classroom may be partially of fully in English to ensure non-Spanish-speaking parents receive the instructions. However, my spoken communication in the videos to learners will be fully in Spanish.

Also note there will be materials to print each week, so access to a printer will be very helpful in completing this class!

*These students may be--for example--heritage speakers, children who have attended an immersion preschool, or "life-time speakers" with a parent or caregiver who has spoken to them in Spanish since infancy.
