In this one-week intensive, students will review, practice and strengthen third grade math skills in preparation for fourth grade. We will practice the 1-12 times tables and incorporate games and puzzles to make the material engaging and fun. Both mental math and written practice will be a part of our daily activities. Story problems, multiplication tables and simple division as well as adding and subtracting with carrying and borrowing will be covered. This class is appropriate as a refresher course or review for students preparing to enter the fourth grade and may be taken more than once.
Learning Goals
In this five-day intensive, we will practice the 1-12's times tables as well as simple division through mental math exercises, written practice and games such as multiplication bingo and the game "24." Students will learn to identify patterns and learn "magic tricks" when computing numbers. Standard third grade material will be practiced and reviewed over the five day class, including simple measurement, multiplication tables and addition and subtraction using carrying and borrowing. Following is a breakdown of the daily routine:

Engaging students by making education meaningful and fun is how I approach teaching. I have been trained as a Waldorf and remedial grades teacher and have a Master of Science in Education, as well as a background in music and the healing arts. I have been teaching for over twenty years in various capacities, from music to math and reading support, and have worked with young children through adults.
My interests and specialties include supporting students with learning challenges and creating ways to bridge education and health while fostering a love of learning. Music is another passion and I spent over a decade teaching piano and performing in various groups as a vocalist and instrumentalist. I live in California with my two children a few blocks away from the ocean.
