This class will introduce students to the key concept of decimals and how to preform the four basic operations with them. A working knowledge of decimals is an essential in late elementary/early middle school mathematics. Students should come to this class with a mastery of the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with whole numbers. The class with be taught in a straight-forward manner with an "I do, we do, you do" approach. Students will work several examples with the instructor before practicing the skills on their own. Learners are expected to practice the skills on their own via the assigned homework (approx. 20 minutes of practice after each class) and answer keys will be posted so that parents/guardians may check their learners' progress. Class topics: Session 1: Introduction to Decimals Session 2: Adding/Subtracting Decimals Session 3: Multiplying Decimals Session 4: Dividing Decimals

Supply List
All notes and homework will be provided. Students should have access to a printer. A basic calculator is optional to aid in computations if desired--in class the instructor will be showing students how to do decimal computations by hand. However a calculator may be used on the homework assignments at parent/guardian discretion. Optional--small white board and dry erase marker to use during class. If not desired a paper/pencil will be fine.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
After teaching middle and high school math for the past several years, I often see students struggling with decimal operations. My hope is through this class that students will fill confident with working with decimals not only during the class but in the future as well.
