Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 11
This is a one-hour open ended tutoring session in your choice of the math subjects listed above. Students can get specific help with a particular topic, prepare for an upcoming test or quiz, review older material, or even get ahead on what's coming up next in their math course. Although I'm happy to cover new topics using my own resources, students are encouraged to be prepared with specific topics that they would like to work on so we can make the best use of the time. In Algebra 1 we might work on solving equations, solving systems of equations, linear functions, percent of change, rate of change, factoring polynomials, polynomial operations or even inequalities. In Geometry, there might be a need to work on proofs, angle relationships, relationships in triangles, properties of quadrilaterals, area and volume, similarity, or maybe properties and relationships in circles. In Algebra 2 we might work on solving quadratic, cubic, or quartic equations, solving rational equations, graphs of higher order functions, systems of 3 equations, matrices and matrix operations, absolute value equations, or nonlinear systems. For SAT prep, we would work through practice SAT problems from one of the 4 domains and use Desmos all through the lesson since it is now available on ALL math questions. I have also taught Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3 and could accommodate that subject material as well since those courses are usually a mix of Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics. The flow of each lesson would be "We Do" then "You Do". I will work an example encouraging the student to give input and then the student would do one on his or her own with me supporting and encouraging as needed. I will use Classkick to share my slide presentation so that me and my student have access to all slides. Students can write with a digital pen or stylus, upload images, or type on the slide. It allows for a very collaborative experience. I also incorporate the Desmos online calculator when a graphing calculator is needed.
