Class Experience

"We cannot measure the influence that one or another artist has upon the child’s sense of beauty, upon his power of seeing, as in a picture, the common sights of life; he is enriched more than we know in having really looked at even a single picture." Charlotte Mason

This is an Flexible Schedule Class, meaning your artist can access lesson materials and complete projects at their own pace, and according to their own schedule.

In Charlotte Mason style, we will study Impressionist artist Edgar Dega for 4 consecutive weeks, but each week will be an independant art lesson. Each lesson will be posted in the Classroom on Mondays, with a link to a private Nearpod presentation. Each lesson will consist of time learning about a particular artist, their style, their life, and studying a work of art from that artist. Artists will follow a step by step art lesson video creating an art piece inspired by the artwork studied. In each lesson artists will learn techniques related to beginning fundemental art techniques, as well as elements of art and principles of design.

Edgar Dega is an Impressionist artist. We will spend each week studying one of hispieces.
Week 1: Dance Class at the Opera
Week 2: The Millinery Shop
Week 3: The Star Dance on Stage
Week 4: At the Stables Horse and Dog

Interaction with Ms. Britain and the other learners in this class is required to make our time together more engaging. That interaction will take place here in the Outschool classroom.
Monday: I will post the weekly instructional video so you can start drawing and painting!
Friday: Art Show Day! Even though you can work at your own pace on these projects, it is a lot of fun to upload your work by Fridays for an Art Show. When you upload your art to the classroom artists will be encouraged to leave positive comments on their classmate's work, and ask questions. I will post on these as well, including personalized video feedback on your artwork.
Learning Goals
Learners will know more about the artist's life and be able to discuss their artwork.

Hello! I can't wait to learn and share with you! I have a bachelors degree in history, a doctorate in law, and certifications in photography and therepeudic art . I love learning, and teaching others.

I am a mom to 5 amazing kids, ages 17, 15, 14, 11, and 9. I've taught art classes for over 25 years and have worked with all ages. I am excited to reach out to even more students on this Outschool. I believe with Pablo Picasso that, "Every child is an artist." And my goal as an art teacher is to make sure we all have the desire and confidence to keep being creative and enjoy a life full of learning. Because just as Picasso said, "The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."

I homeschool my 3 youngest children for several years, and now all 5 are home with me. I love teaching them art and history. I love using my passion for history to teach how the events of our past have shaped our future.

When I am not teaching, our family travels. I love to travel to see the original art I study and teach about, and the geography that has inspired artists and influenced our history.
