Some students may wish to use extra time to finish their artworks.Class Experience
This is a "Summer Camp" class, so we'll meet several days in a row! In each lesson, we'll look at the paintings of a great Impressionist painter, learn a little about their life, and use one of their masterpieces to inspire our own artwork! Students will follow along with a teacher-led demonstration to create their own masterpieces using oil pastels. Together, we will create a beautiful artwork, step-by-step. Although specific instruction will be provided, students are encouraged to add their own unique, creative details to their paintings & drawings. Throughout the four classes, we will cover a range of artistic techniques and subjects, which students can apply to artworks they create on their own! Together we'll create landscapes and genre scenes (with people!) in the style of the masters. Here's our class syllabus: Lesson 1: Berthe Morisot- "The Butterfly Hunt," 1874, watercolor painting Lesson 2: Claude Monet- "The Japanese Footbridge," 1899, oil pastel drawing Lesson 2: Mary Cassatt- "Little Girl in a Blue Armchair," 1878, watercolor painting Lesson 4: Berthe Morisot- "Girl in a Boat, with Geese," 1889, watercolor painting Lesson 5: Paul Signac- "The Pine Tree at Saint Tropez," 1909, oil pastel drawing Although each demonstration will be finished by the end of class, students who work more slowly may need or wish to continue drawing after we have signed off for the day. Everyone works at a different speed, and it's better to take our time than to rush! ***************************************** To see more of Ms. Kristy's classes, visit my teacher profile here: https://outschool.com/teachers/Kristine-Mankin#us3u0MdGLD

As a traditional classroom teacher, many of the lessons I designed were inspired by the work of master artists throughout history. This class combines all of my very favorite things: artist studies, art history, drawing, painting, and still leaves room for each student's unique creative spark. I'm excited to share these quick, fun lessons with my students!
