In this 5 day class, students will learn about the structure of a persuasive essay and how to craft a compelling and effective argument. They will go through the writing process to write their own persuasive essays.

Class Experience

This five-day middle school persuasive essay camp aims to make the writing process not only educational, but an adventurous journey. Through a blend of individual and group activities, students will hone their persuasive writing skills while enjoying the collaborative learning experience. Students will learn the structure of a persuasive essay and go through the writing process to craft their own compelling persuasive essay.

Lesson 1:
Launching the Persuasive Odyssey
 Overview of the persuasive essay genre and its real-world applications. Discussion on the power of persuasion in daily life. Introduction to ethos, pathos, and logos.

Charting the Course for Persuasion
 Exciting brainstorming activities to help students select their persuasive topics. Introduction to effective research methods for gathering supporting evidence.
Developing a clear and concise thesis statement. In-depth exploration of the persuasive essay structure.

The Art of Persuasive Writing
 Analyzing effective introductions in famous persuasive essays. Writing introduction paragraphs.
Organizing and presenting evidence effectively. Drafting persuasive body paragraphs.

Counter Arguments and Conclusions
 Strategies for addressing and refuting opposing views. Writing counterarguments.
