This 3-week course is designed to help students strengthen their paragraph and essay writing skills. Students will learn the basics of writing a strong paragraph and translating that into a strong, 5-paragraph essay. We will begin by discussing the different parts of a paragraph and practice using a given topic. To organize our writing, we will use different techniques and students will use the one that works best for them. All learners are different! I will give examples to help students tell the difference between strong and weak writing samples. We will also work on transition words, descriptive words, and making our writing worth reading.
The outline of the class will be:
♦Day 1 - The basics of a paragraph
- Introduction, supporting details, and conclusion
- Pre-writing, ideas, and organization
♦Day 2 - Writing the introduction and supporting details 1 & 2
- Drafting
♦Day 3 - Writing supporting paragraph 3 and conclusion
