Class Description: In this four-session course, high school students will learn how to confidently navigate job, school, and research interviews, guided by the expertise of a Silicon Valley hiring manager and adjunct professor. Drawing from my experience hiring candidates for top companies like Amazon, Uber, StitchFix, and Shipt (part of Target), I have tailored this course to help students maximize their chances of success, whether they are applying for internships, research positions, or school admissions. I have previously taught similar courses at the university level, focused on preparing students for graduate school and job interviews. This Outschool course is specially designed for high school students, going beyond job interviews to cover essential skills for school applications, internships, part-time jobs, and research roles. Students will gain valuable insights at every step of the process, from preparing applications to mastering interview techniques, ensuring they are fully equipped for any opportunity. Class Experience: In this course, I will share the most critical insights I’ve gathered as a hiring manager and adjunct professor, transforming them into a well-structured, comprehensive learning experience for high school students. The course covers the entire journey: from preparing and submitting applications to excelling in various interview formats and following up effectively. Assessment & Feedback: As a final assessment, students will practice their interview skills by submitting a recorded video response to a given prompt (a common interview question). Each student will receive personalized feedback on their performance. Course Structure: The course consists of four sessions, each lasting around one hour. Here’s how it is structured: • Lectures: Each session will begin with a lecture, supported by slides, where I will cover key topics and practical tips. • Interactive Discussions: During the class, I will engage students in discussions and questions to help them think critically and apply what they learn to real-world scenarios. • Practice & Assessment: At the end of the course, students will complete an assessment by submitting a recorded video. I will provide them with a prompt, and they will record a response. Each student will receive personalized feedback on their performance. Teaching Style: My teaching style is highly interactive and practical. I focus on delivering clear, structured lectures with well-designed slides that make complex topics easy to understand. I encourage active participation through discussions and Q&A sessions, allowing students to ask questions and share their thoughts. By blending real-world examples with interactive elements, I ensure students not only learn the content but also feel confident in applying it. Students will have the opportunity to practice what they learn, receive feedback, and refine their skills. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students can develop the skills they need to succeed in interviews and applications for any opportunity they pursue.
