This course is a self-paced version of my PSAT/SAT Prep Course: Critical Reading appropriate for any student wanting to prepare for the Digital PSAT and SAT. Do note that the reading levels of the passages range from 8th grade and beyond. Also, note that the SAT no longer assigns students an essay to write. Instead, students complete two critical reading section and writing sections that covers reading analysis, rhetorical synthesis, sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary. This particular course covers reading and vocabulary, but not grammar. I will have a separate course to cover grammar concepts. I have taken 2 workshops in the Spring of 2023 (including the Indiana GEAR Up SAT professional development workshop) that cover ways to prepare students for the SAT and PSAT. I also tutor students in preparing for the SAT and teach high school English. I am a SAT testing coordinator and administrator at my school. All materials in this course come from reputable sources including College Board, Khan Academy, and The Princeton Review. This class is asynchronous. Each lesson will include a guided video instruction and independent work. The video lessons are chunked by topics. Some weeks have more than one video (some topics are broken up into parts for better retention). Through these lessons, students will learn the strategies and techniques to conquer the different types of questions in the Reading and Writing section of the PSAT/SAT which include : -Central Ideas: How to identify and summarize the main ideas and themes of the passages -Paired Passages: How to compare and contrast two related passages on the same topic -Evidence Questions (Scientific and Litearary): How to find and use evidence from the passages to support your answers -Data Evidence: How to interpret and analyze data, graphs, and charts in the passages -Inferences: How to make logical and reasonable inferences from the passages -Purpose and Structure Questions: How to recognize and understand the organization and purpose of the passages -Informational Synthesis: How to evaluate the author’s use of rhetorical devices and persuasive techniques in the passages -Transition Words: How to choose the best transition words and phrases to connect ideas and sentences Other topics include: -Tips and Tricks for Process of Elimination -Active Reading Strategies -Stress/Time Management Strategies Please note that I have live classes available as well:
