US Grade 3 - 6
Each week we will tackle a new paragraph and incorporate specific writing styles. A new topic will be covered each week. It's important to me to teach the students about certain topics such as: animals, famous people, places... Writing is an important skill that needs to be practiced and mastered over time. With this class, it is my aim to get my students conformable with the writing process. Becoming familiar and comfortable with certain writing mechanics such as: topic sentence, supporting details and closing statements is the goal. Students will learn all the mechanics for creating a paragraph including: • keyword note-taking • paraphrasing (say in a different way) • topic sentences • supporting details • closing statements • adding detail (adjectives, adverbs) • because clause • who/which clause • strong verbs • different sentence openers Each week, students will get a new paragraph to work on and recreate. They will be expected to complete the paragraph for homework using the tools introduced and the checklist provided and submit it before the following session. The teacher will mark the paragraph according to a checklist provided and offer positive feedback to the student.
