There is a tentative timeline of class activities for learners who want to attend all 23 weeks. The instructor will meet learners' needs where they see fit in regards to foundational skills. Therefore it may not be necessary to attend every class. Please sign up to hone in on those much needed math life skills!

This course will help students catch up, review, or enrich upon basic math facts. Concepts covered will include place value in order for students to gain a better understanding of numbers. Students will then in-turn learn to use number sense in order to solve facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The retention of basic facts can lead to students being able to conquer more advanced math problems when faced with more challenging math.

Weeks of Jan 19-Feb. 9/Weeks 1-4

Phase 1: gain an understanding of place value in order to apply number sense in solving problems - includes skip-counting, rounding, expanded form, ranges of numbers

Week of Feb. 16/Week 5: Place Value Evaluation

Weeks of Feb. 23-Mar. 16/Weeks 6-9
Phase 2: addition and subtraction - use place value, compatible numbers, standard algorithm to solve addition and subtraction problems

Week of Mar. 23/Week 10: Addition and Subtraction Evaluation

Weeks of Mar. 30-Apr. 20/Weeks 11-14
Phase 3: multiplication - applying strategies such as skip-counting, equal groups, arrays, repeated addition to solve multiplication problems. Learn and understand the relationship between addition and multiplication

Week of Apr. 27/Week 15: Multiplication Evaluation

Weeks of May 4-May 25/Weeks 16-19
Phase 4: multiplication and division - applying strategies such as skip-counting, equal groups, arrays, repeated subtraction to solve division problems. Learn and understand the relationship between multiplication and division.

Week of Jun. 1/Week 20: Division Evaluation

Week of Jun. 8/Week 21: Summative Assessment

Week of Jun. 15/Week 22: Summative Assessment continued

Week of Jun. 22/Week 23: Go over summative assessment

Weeks ongoing: Students may entered the course where they see fit. Some students may need to start at the beginning to build a better foundation and number sense. Whereas other students may just need a review of some basic facts. Students can complete course through its entirety or continue to work on skills deficits.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a classroom teacher, I have taught elementary math for over twenty years. I am familiar with state standards and I am also know foundational skills students need. I am also aware of common deficits students lack in the foundational skills because of the time constraints and lack of opportunity to practice skills ongoing in order to retain them.

In addition to my classroom experience, I teach in various settings. I have taught large and small group classes online. Furthermore, I provide one-on-one tutoring.
