Don't just read the comics and watch the films! Become part of the Marvel Universe! In this class we will use a set of role-playing game rules (not D&D) to create an original Marvel Super Hero RPG character. Maybe you were bitten by a radioactive animal! Maybe you were bombarded with cosmic rays! Maybe you were born a mutant with amazing powers! Maybe you've invented devices that give you super powers! Maybe you're an alien from space! You can create anything you can imagine in this class set in the Marvel Universe. Our heroes will work together to fight crime, solve mysteries, dispense justice, and encounter some of the characters, places, and things of the Marvel Universe. Day 1 will be character creation. We will begin by using a free set of role-playing game rules the create an original hero. Marvel characters have always had depth to them. Their secret identities can offer as much excitement as their heroic identities. Therefore, we will take some time with character creation to determine who the characters are both in and out of their heroic personas. The classes in our fourth and final week will see the characters put all the clues together to confront the real villain once and for all! Learners will need rpg dice to participate. These can be physical dice or you can use an online dice roller or app. House rules: By joining our class you agree to abide by our house rules 1. No evil characters. Marvel stories are about heroes fighting villains. All Player characters must be heroic. You don't have to be a Captain America-type, but a Punisher-type is not allowed. 2. No Player versus Player (PvP) 3. You cannot do anything to another Player Character (PC) without the player's consent (ie stealing from them, throwing them at a bad guy, etc) 4. Be honest about your die rolls 5. Remember, RPG's are a team sport so be respectful and kind to your party members and the Game Master. Experience is NOT required! We welcome all learners, regardless of previous experience. Knowledge of role-playing games and Marvel Comics or movies is helpful, but not a requirement. It's time to be a hero! Excelsior!
Learning Goals
Role-playing games are an excellent way to learn and strengthen reading, math, and vocabulary skills. They are also great vehicles to work on team work, creative thinking, problem solving, and inter-personal skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Ed!
I'm so happy to be teaching on Outschool!
I'm a professional puppeteer, a gamer, and a home school dad!
During my career as a puppeteer I've performed with the Muppets, the Jim Henson Company, and Sesame Street among others. I've been a puppeteer on feature films, tv shows, and videos throughout my 30+ year career. I have toured internationally with Walking with Dinosaurs-the Arena Spectacular for the past 11 years. Currently I own a company that tours throughout the Southeast.
As a home school dad I helped teach my son his entire school career.
I'm a huge fan of games, especially role-playing games! Playing a role playing game can improve skills like math, reading, comprehension, team work, and creative problem solving.
Students learn better when they are in an environment where they want to learn. Using puppetry and games, I've been able to educate students of all ages on a variety of topics. In fact, puppetry and games can be used to teach any subject under the sun!
